Jacobs Transport’s Success – Specialised Container Transport
Jacobs Transport’s main type of freight has always been moving Containers and we do so with specialised vehicles such as Side Loaders/Sidelifters which are able to lift up to 36 tons in a very level and safe way.
Our customers’ requirement has grown over the years and so has Jacobs Transport’s capabilities to satisfy their needs accordingly. For example, placing a container office unit over a tree on the fairway at a golf tournament, double stacking containers to maximize space availability, or place mobile coffee units in the middle of a busy shopping centre. This feat can only be mastered by using capable vehicles and qualified staff.
Crane trucks and Sidelifters are also used to place containers in stacks at ports and in our warehouse. All our trucks are registered at coastal and inland ports and are RIB haulier certified with SARS. We are registered to transport Hazchem and Explosives and our vehicles are mine compliant. We also assist with returning the empty container once unpacked.
Ideally cranes are used for container stuffing and destuffing at your client’s premises. Heavy machines can be unpacked and rigged into position at the factory. Our low-mast, low emission forklifts are ideal to destuff containers for smaller items.
Parkhome Transport, E-House Transport, Mobile Office Transport, and Storage container all form part of this industry and we at Jacobs Transport are capable and qualified to assist with all these types of loads.

Jacobs Transport’s young, compliant fleet shifts to bigger business premises.
Specialised transportation service provider Jacobs Transport has outgrown its current yard space and will be redesigning the company’s modus operandi to conform with business requirement flow.
The previous piece of land becoming too small prompted Jacobs Transport to purchase 12 ha of industrial land, which it says is closer to its customer base, and will equate to significant diesel and time savings.
The greenfield project, it adds, will allow for the company to conduct all of its services under one roof. Trucks will follow a route throughout the yard that is “the most efficient and ideal” in preparation for the following day’s jobs.
Despite numerous challenges, Jacobs Transport continues to serve the mining industry through assorted deliveries – from shaft sinking and yellow metal equipment, to office park/home units, air coolant systems, and a myriad of structures and other mine deliveries.
The fleet boasts over 100 trailers of different types, such as multi-axles triaxles or super link flat beds that can be hooked to either truck tractors with or without cranes. There are also rollback trucks with winches, and most trailers in the fleet are air-suspension.
Jacobs Transport’s main type of freight has always been moving containers, and it does so with specialised vehicles like side loaders/sidelifters that are able to lift up to 36 t in a level and safe way.
With the company’s tipper division, it can transport chrome, manganese, magnetite, iron-ore, and pig iron.
“Our tipper fleet consists of side tipper links with the state-of-the-art lightweight design capable of super payloads up to 40 t.”
Additionally, the company’s rigging team includes experienced assessors that are able to safely and cost-effectively manage customers’ rigging requirements.
Jacobs Transport adds that a part of the service includes site inspections, as well as risk assessments for deliveries to mine, or rigging studies, as required by HSE. Jacobs Transport can also assist with explosives transport or UN Class Code 1 type of freight. In keeping with the advanced technology strategy, each one of the company’s vehicles is fitted with four live cameras, as well as telematics tracking, to ensure that operators remain in control of the fleet 24/7.
“Our drivers are equipped with tablets that have signing-on-glass technology in South Africa, as well as cross border, ensuring that PODs get signed and digitally submitted instantaneously therefore speeding up the job-to-invoice process,” it adds.
“The fleet is young enough and mine compliant to ensure that we are able to pass the high health and safety requirements of modern mines,” the company says.

Jacobs Transport – Rigging, Lifting, Moving – We move Mountains
Founded in 1999 to fill the gap in the market for a reliable, specialised transport service, Jacobs Transport
started with a second-hand crane truck, the fleet has now grown to over 90 with 120 trailers. They ascribe
their success and growth to the pursuit of their vision: To redefine the transport industry in southern Africa
through servanthood.
On top of its 22 years of expertise, the Gauteng-based company’s biggest assets are its professional,
dedicated staff paired with cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art equipment. Equipment
requirements like bigger cranes or a considerable number of extendable trailers are usually dictated by our
Customer’s needs.
During the horrible Covid 19 pandemic Jacobs Transport focused attention on transporting commodities
and started a Tipper division. With our Tipper division, we can transport Chrome, Manganese, Magnetite,
Iron Ore, and Pig iron. Our Tipper fleet consists of Side tipper links with the state-of-the-art lightweight
design that are capable of super payloads up to 40 tons. In keeping with the advanced technology strategy,
each one of our vehicles are fitted with 4 cameras (live) as well as Telematics tracking ensuring that our
operators remain in 24/7 control of the fleet. We can provide our customers with secure, efficient logistics.
This has made us a valuable logistics service provider with a good name to large mines/contractors
throughout South Africa
Implementing internationally recognized quality management system ISO 9001: 2015 during 2016, Jacobs
Transport has streamlined its business to the advantage of its clients and the company. In 2019, a vanilla
developed ERP system was introduced that allows for process flows to be assigned and controlled
throughout each department. This provides visibility on non-conformance and easier KPI management. The
added advantage of signing-on-technology has dramatically improved invoicing lead times.
Our capabilities in the specialised field of machine moving and rigging include rigging, loading, offloading,
and positioning of any machinery up to 500t using in-house equipment. To assist with the movement of
very heavy machinery where clearance is an issue, owing to low ceilings, for example, Jacobs Transport
delivers safe moves using Jack-&-Slide hydraulic skidding systems. These systems are designed to load,
offload and transload valuable and sensitive equipment to engineered specifications with ease.
Jacobs Transport is also well versed in abnormal transport and the associated permits and escorts
required, the effective management and execution of factory moves, and the palletizing and crating of
equipment to export standards. Jacobs Transport provides a complete logistics solution including services
from the handling (in and out), in bond transport and in bond storage of industrial products. The company is
not only able to transport its client’s cargo to and from the port, but is also able to de-stuff, de-crate, pre-
assemble and store the items until the client’s site is completed, where after the items will be rigged into
their final position.
Jacobs Transport’s forklifts are equipped with low masts to ensure easy access, enabling the forklift to drive
into containers to assist with the packing and unpacking/destuffing containers in preparation for the port.
